STATE LAW FOR MINORS & AGE LIMITS

Thank you for taking the time to read over rules and laws regarding minors and body art.

For any procedure involving a minor Michigan State Law requires that the parent be present to sign the paperwork, remain present during the procedure, and provide to the studio their ID, the birth certificate of the minor,  and some form of ID for the minor having the procedure done. (School ID: must be recent & have school year printed) / college ID / state ID / MILITARY ID / US PASSPORT OR PASSPORT CARD) .

*We follow all state / local requirements for minors to the letter. we cannot / will not make any exceptions*

The minimum ages that we've established are requirements laid out by our insurance.  We are unable to make exceptions to our insurance requirements or the State Laws for body art.

Located below we've outlined our minimum ages, as well as what types of ID we are allowed to accept.

FAQ:

FOR PARENTS (AND ANYONE ELSE):

We welcome you to stop in and talk with us about the process.  You are always welcome to inspect how we sterilize our equipment.   Our autoclave is also spore tested monthly to ensure that is functioning properly. (this is monitored by an outside lab.)  See our "Studio Page" for more information.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

  • Brothers, Sisters, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, step-parents or Grandparents are not allowed to sign for the minor child unless they have proof of court appointed guardianship. Emancipated minors must have the state ID with the emancipated endorsement

  • Can I leave my minor unattended during the procedure? No. The guardian that signs the paperwork must remain present in the studio during the entirety of the procedure. This is Michigan State Law.

WHY DO WE ASK FOR ALL THIS INFORMATION?

We care about what we do. A tattoo and/or body piercing is a big decision that requires proper aftercare and forethought. It is up to the parent to decide if their minor child can follow-through with the commitment after they have left the clean environment of our studio. This is not something to be decided by the minor, one of their friends, or a relative. The contract and ID requirements must be met each time you come in. Your minor child will not be able to come in a second time by themselves for a new piercing or tattoo. Consent for multiple procedures at different times is not possible.

Any establishment that does not care enough to check for proper ID may not be the best choice and may be violating State or Local Law. Cutting corners with the law generally means cutting corners elsewhere
